Shaping TCP Traffic in Heterogeneous Networks

چکیده

In this paper, we depart from TCP-Probing [13, 14] and propose an experimental transport protocol that has energy and throughput performance gains in both wired and wireless environments. Our approach decouples error recovery from contention estimation and focuses on how these two mechanisms can (i) feed the decision process and (ii) implement the protocol strategy by shaping traffic, accordingly. We use a validation mechanism, which possibly uncovers previous wrong estimations. Our analysis matches well our simulation results, which are very promising.

TCP Retransmission Monitoring and Configuration Tuning on AI3 Satellite Link

The AI project aims to achieve effective and fair bandwidth usage of its relatively narrow satellite links by all the partners in this project and the best possible end-to-end communication quality under limited resources. It is difficult to realize them as the operation of it is shared by all the partners with heterogeneous traffic demands and policies, as the network includes many traffic eng...

Coexistence goals of VoIP and TCP traffic in mobile WiMAX networks: Performance of flat architecture

WiMAX IEEE802.16e standard is proposed as an attractive wireless communication technology for providing broadband access. For the network and application-level capacity and performance analysis, we first provide a short overview on mobile WiMAX networks, and then describe mobile WiMAX PHY and MAC layer. Afterward we present and discuss the benefits and challenges of flat architecture for mobile...

LinkWidth: A Method to measure Link Capacity and Available Bandwidth using Single-End Probes

We introduce LinkWidth, a method for estimating capacity and available bandwidth using single-end controlled TCP packet probes. To estimate capacity, we generate a train of TCP RST packets “sandwiched” between two TCP SYN packets. Capacity is obtained by end-to-end packet dispersion of the received TCP RST/ACK packets corresponding to the TCP SYN packets. Our technique is significantly differen...

Some simulation results about TCP connections in ATM networks

We discuss simulation results concerning the performance of the TCP protocol when running over high-speed ATM networks. Two network topologies are considered: a simple network topology, comprising just two ATM switches and supporting 3 TCP connections, and a candidate Italian ATM network topology comprising ten ATM switches and supporting 6 TCP connections. In all simulation scenarios the TCP t...

Exploring the Performance Impact of QoS Support in TCP/IP Protocol Stacks

This paper explores the performance impact of supporting QoS guarantees on communication in TCP/IP protocol stacks at Unixlike end hosts. We first demonstrate the efficacy of our RSVPbased QoS architecture in providing the desired QoS to individual connections via application-level experiments using UDP sessions and TCP connections on an ATM network. We then identify and measure, via detailed p...
